Freight rates fell 3% this week, to $2,541 per 40’ box, 76% less than the previous pandemic peak of $10,377 in September 2021 and the lowest since January 2024. However, the index remains 79% higher than the $1,420 average in pre-pandemic 2019.
In particular, spot freight rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles fell by 9%, to $3,166 per FEU, and spot freight rates from Shanghai to New York were down 6%, to $4,320 per FEU.
Similarly, Rotterdam – Shanghai tariffs fell by 4%, to $483 per FEU, and Rotterdam- New York rates fell by 1%, to $2,359 per FEU.
Shanghai – Rotterdam tariffs were up 2%, to $2,636 per FEU while New York- Rotterdam rates rose by 1%, to $845 per FEU, while Shanghai – Genoa and Los Angeles- Shanghai rates remained stable.
