The Chinese shipbuilding industry is slowing down in terms of production capacity. In the first half of the year, in fact, output fell by 10.6% to 17.58 million dwt
The Chinese Ministry of Transport reveals that in the first semester the “orders in hand” portfolio was 76.54 million dwt (-6.3% compared to January-June 2019), while the volume of new orders increased by 3.4% to 12.47 million dwt.
Although the economic crisis triggered by the Coronavirus has had a strong impact on market dynamics, the Chinese shipbuilding industry maintains its world leadership, representing, respectively, 37.2%, 67.5% and 48.2% of the sector’s global market share in terms of completed units, new orders and orders in hand.
