New frontiers in logistics

CMA CGM betting on e-commerce

by Port News Editorial Staff

CMA CGM Group has signed a Share and Asset Purchase Agreement with Ingram Micro to acquire the majority of Commerce & Lifecycle Services’ logistics activities.  CLS is part of the Ingram Micro group specializing in the provision of logistics solutions for e-commerce.

CLS’ activities and services will be taken over by CMA CGM Group’s subsidiary Ceva Logistics. In this way it will be able to strengthen its presence in a sector, that of on-line commerce, which has driven consumption in the pandemic period.

CLS has revenues of $1.7 billion and employs about 12,000 people in 59 warehouses, with a major presence in the United States and Europe.

The combined logistics business between CEVA and CLS will involve approximately 90,000 people at nearly 1,100 sites in 160 countries. The deal will include the acquisition of CLS’ Shipwire order fulfilment platform, which provides e-commerce logistics solutions for small and medium-sized businesses.
