A letter of intent to set up a new public-private joint venture specializing in logistics services for the automotive sector was signed by CMA CGM CEO Rodolphe Saadé and Koper Port Authority top management yesterday afternoon.
The signing took place during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Slovenia.
The partnership aims to strengthen Slovenia’s position as a sustainable logistics hub in the region plus, with CMA CGM’s support, improve connections between foreign markets and continental Europe through shipping and intermodal links. In particular, the French liner’s goal is to acquire 27,000m2 of land to develop a logistics area for the automotive sector.
Luka Koper and CMA CGM started working together in 2003, when the French company launched its first container line. CMA CGM currently handles about a quarter of the port’s container traffic.
