22 new containerships

CMA-CGM’s mega boxship order

CMA CGM has placed an order with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) for the construction of 22 containerships. Six vessels will have a 15,000 TEU capacity, will run on Liquefied Natural Gas and will be built by Jiagnan Shipyard.

A further six boxships will have a 13,000 TEU capacity and will be built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.

The remaining ten 5,500 TEU ships will run on fuel with a sulphur content of less than 0.5% and built by Beichuan Heavy Industry.

This is the largest containership order to be secured by the Chinese shipbuilding group. The new vessels will be delivered in 2023 and 2024.
