Restructuring services

CMA gets reorganized in the Pacific

by Port News Editorial Staff

From next October 1st, CMA CGM will be the only brand of the group to operate on the transpacific trade route. The French shipowner has in fact decided to withdraw its subsidiary APL from the long-distance services between the US west coast and Asia.

This is an important novelty for the sector. Since CMA acquired Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) in 2016, taking control of the APL container shipping company, both brands have continued to operate their respective transpacific services.

According to the French group’s intentions, APL will continue to serve the US market with its US-flagged ships and will operate on the transpacific trade route only on the links between America and Guam, a US island located in Micronesia in the Western Pacific.

The APL services Eagle Express X (EXX),EXX RailFlash and EXX X-Location will therefore only be operated by CMA CGM.
