Covid-19, Wärtsilä hit hard

The pandemic crisis has had a very severe impact on Wärtsilä’s accounts. In the second quarter, it saw its operating profit fall by 49% to €49 million compared to €96 million in the same period last year.

From April-June, the portfolio of new orders fell by 27%, with an overall loss of 5.4 billion euros in the first half of the year.

In the second three months of the year, Wärtsilä Marine Division recorded new orders in the Marine Power segment (engines and propulsion systems) for €391 million, down by 38% compared to the same period last year.

In the Marine Systems segment (solutions and services for the maritime sector, new orders were placed for €119 million (-40%).

As of June 30th, the order books of the two business segments amounted to 1.91 billion euros (-3%) and 903 million euros (-39%) respectively.
