by Port News Editorial Staff

The 16 infected seafarers on the bulk carrier Grand Progress, which left the Philippines on July 30th for the Chinese port of Rugao, in the city of Nantong, in the Jiangsu province, have been disembarked in Zhoushan.

Several crew members had started suffering from  the first symptoms of the infection while at sea. The ship then made its way to the nearest port of Zhoushan, where the crew received initial treatment. 11 of them were taken to designated medical facilities, while the rest received medical treatment directly on board.

Chinese authorities later decided to send the sick to the nearest hospitals.
