Damco and Safmarine off the market

by Port News Editorial Staff

The Safmarine shipping company, specialized in operations with Africa and acquired by Maersk in 1999, will cease to exist by the end of the year. The company will be incorporated into the Ocean & Logistics division of the Dutch shipping group.

Damco’s air freight and LCL activities will also be taken over by the liner and combined with Maersk’s logistics products.

“Our customers’ evolving supply chain needs are increasing the demand for multiple modes of transport and to meet these needs, we’re bringing our company’s expertise and capabilities even closer together. Taking these steps are key to accelerating our transformation,” Vincent Clerc, CEO of Ocean & Logistics, A.P. Moller – Maersk said.
