Discussion meeting on customs procedures

Egyptian delegation visits Livorno

As part of the administrative twinning project with Egypt called “Strengthening the Administrative and Operational Capacities of The Egyptian Customs Authority”, a top delegation from the Arab country visited the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority’s headquarters this morning.

The Head of the Egyptian Customs Authority, Commissioner Al Shahat Abdel Bar Ibrahim Ghatoury, accompanied by the project’s Italian representative, Gaetano Sassone, had the opportunity to meet the Port Network Authority’s Managing Director, Matteo Paroli, and staff members from the  Authority’s IT-digital department, who provided him with  useful information on Livorno port’s logistics-customs procedures.

The Egyptian delegation –  which included among others, Alexandria Customs Director, Ahmed Abd Elghany Mohamed Elkernshawy, and Human Resources Director, Mahmoud Elsayed– was able to improve their knowledge of the Tuscan Port Community System (designed to manage goods traffic customs logistics) and the Gate Transit System  (for controlling the entry and exit of goods at customs gates).

The visit, which was attended by a large delegation from the local Customs Agency, including, among others, the director of  Livorno Customs office, Giovanni Parisi, the head of the anti-fraud department , Francesco Rapisarda, and the head of customs clearance & inspection department, Francesco Terlizzi. It was also an opportunity to learn more about the Customs Agency’s  digitalization initiatives which were  illustrated by one of the representatives from their Organizion Management & Digital Transformation Department, Roberto De Giuni.

The meeting ended with the customary exchange of crests and the subsequent visit to the port of Livorno, which allowed  the  Egyptian delegation to see for themselves how  goods import-export procedures & customs formalities are organized.
