Evergreen to boost its boxship fleet

Evergreen has commissioned two Chinese shipyards to build 23 new feeder boxships.

The Taiwanese shipping giant has signed 16 contracts with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding for the construction of sixteen  3,100 TEU vessels. The deal is worth between $736 million and $896 million.

Another seven 5,900 TEU vessels were ordered from Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding at a cost of somewhere between 67 and 82 million s.

Evergreen is currently the seventh largest shipping company in the world in terms of available tonnage  in the container shipping market. Its fleet currently has a 2 million TEU capacity.
