The port of Hamburg closed 2019 with a 1.1% growth in traffic. A total of 136.6 million tons of goods were handled overall.
Containerized traffic increased by 6.9%: 9.3 million TEUs were loaded and unloaded. This includes 2.6 million TEUs coming from and going to China (+1.7%), which continues to be Germany’s main commercial partner.
On the other hand, volumes of solid (-6.8%) and liquid bulk (-5.2%) fell, while rail traffic grew by 10.7% to 2.7 million TEUs.
