India has recently secured its first order for ammonia-powered dual-fuel vessels: Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has signed a contract with Energy One Limited to build four 92,500 dwt bulk carriers at its shipyard in Pipavav.
The four vessels, each 229.5 metres long and 37 metres wide, will be built at the Pipanav shipyard and will be fitted with ammonia-powered propulsion systems. These ships are also among the largest commercial vessels ever commissioned from an Indian shipyard. Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for October 2029, with subsequent vessels following at four-month intervals.
