With the arrival, yesterday, of MSC Athens, Livorno port welcomed its 100th mega container ship belonging to the post-panamax class (over 300 meters long and up to 48 meters wide).
“This is a really remarkable result if you think that it is only since last year, thanks to the infrastructural improvement works in the port, mega ships have had the opportunity to call here and operate”, explains the Harbour Authority in a press note , stressing, moreover, the importance of how the result is to be attributed, in addition to the dredging of the mouth of the access channel as well as the channel itself, also to the construction of a more efficient lighting system, the revision of the rates of towage services and the professionalism of the technical-nautical services.
The Harbour Authority also announced that it has issued Ordinance no. 215/2019, which, following repeated checks and tests, provides for the possibility of manoeuvring vessels of the “post-panamax” class up to the 12 meter draught limit, upon departure.
