Change in leadership at Port Network Authority

Luciano Guerrieri’s first day

“I am delighted to have been appointed President of this Authority. It is a great responsibility which I will honour with all my commitment and skills. We must be aware of the fact that we are an important set up and that we have a key place in the national port system.” This is how Luciano Guerrieri introduced himself to the staff at the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority this morning.

On the day of his investiture as president of the governing body of the ports of Livorno, Piombino, Capraia Isola, Portoferrario, Rio Marina and Cavo, Mr. Guerrieri was conciliatory but resolute: “I will build on the good work done by President Corsini, whom I thank for his commitment and dedication.”

Mr. Guerrieri emphasised that the Network is already operating in a well-defined project dimension: “We are not starting from scratch, but from a programmatic and planning position that has already been outlined. The last four years have not been spent in vain: we will proceed unhesitatingly towards the completion of a unique Network which, as has been stressed a number of times, has the potential to serve and supply European markets through the Brenner Pass.”

According to the newly appointed Port Network Authority president, “we are all emerging from a difficult period, both in human and operational terms. We must not hide from the fact that Covid-19 has changed our way of life forever and that many ports have lost traffic and work. We have to make up for lost ground, ensuring entrepreneurs, institutions and big players work better. I will never tire of reiterating: it is only by working as a team, inside and outside the Authority, that we will succeed in transforming this crisis into a new opportunity for growth. I know that we all have the best interests of the public at heart.  This must be our guiding star, even at the most difficult times. It is in the interests of the common good that we will be able to work together to create the synergies that this Network needs to reach new horizons.”

Outgoing President Stefano Corsini also took the floor. He said that he had no regrets: “Over the last few years I have given my all to try and give organizational substance and a vision to a Port Network that four years ago did not exist or existed only on paper. I am also convinced that Mr. Guerrieri will know how to put this work to the best use, in the interests of the community.”

Massimo Provinciali, the Authority’s managing director, also attended the meeting: “With Mr. Corsini, important results have been achieved in terms of infrastructure and development” – he said – “Despite everything, despite the criticism, the Darsena Europa project is still there and still standing. I am confident that Mr Guerrieri, thanks also to his recent appointment as extraordinary commissioner of the project, will be able to bring it to completion on schedule.”
