by Port News Editorial Staff

AP Moller – Maersk (Maersk) has announced that it has ordered six more large ocean-going vessels capable of running on green methanol.

The new 17,000 TEU vessels will be built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and will be delivered in 2025.

They are part of the fleet renewal programme initiated by Maersk and will be added to the 13 others that the Danish group recently ordered.

Once all 19 newbuldings are operational, Maersk will be able to generate annual CO2 emission savings of 2.3 million tonnes.

Maersk has also reconfirmed its strategy of maintaining its fleet capacity at a maximum of 4.3 million TEUs.
