MSC has signed a contract with Chinese shipyard Zhoushan Changhong for four 21,700 TEU newbuildings with options for up to four additional vessels..
The Swiss giant has become a trusted client of the Chinese shipbuilding company. In 2023 Gianluigi Aponte had already turned to the company with a mega order for ten 10,300-to-11,500 TEU capacity vessels. This was followed by another order in 2024 for twelve LNG dual-fuel 19,000 TEU units.
The company’s order book now totals over 130 ships. With this new contract, the fleet is expected to increase by an additional 2.15 million TEUs over the next few years.
