According to Descartes, a company specializing in supply chain management, last month US ports imported 2.48 million TEUs, beating their January 2022 record by 21.455 TEUs.
This included 997,909 twenty-foot containers from China, 10.6% more than in December, and 2.4% more than the 1.022m TEU peak in July 2024.
“The rise in import volume this January can be mainly attributed to U.S. importers bracing for tariffs on China, along with the additional influence of the Chinese New Year,” said Jackson Wood, Descartes’ Director of Industrial Strategy & Global Trade Intelligence.
