NYK is investing in dual fuel too. The Japanese shipping company has, in fact, announced that it has commissioned two Very Large Gas Carriers partially running on Liquefied Natural Gas from the Kawasaki Heavy Industries shipyard.
The vessels, the cost of which has yet to be disclosed, will be delivered in 2022. NYK’s decision is in line with the liner’s objective, announced earlier this year, of cutting sulfur oxide and CO2 emissions through an environmentally sustainable fleet and low-carbon transportation.
In February, the company obtained a $50 million loan from Japan’s Shiga Bank aimed at achieving environmental sustainability goals.
