Sea Intelligence analysis

Ocean Alliance, top shipping group

by Port News Editorial Staff

According to Sea-Intelligence, Ocean Alliance has acquired the greatest market share over the last few months among the alliances that have been operating since the beginning of 2025.

In its latest report, the market analyst has examined the strategic positioning of shipping alliances along the major trade routes.

On the Asia-Europe route, the  CMA CGM, Evergreen, Cosco Shipping Lines and OOCL  group has maintained its  36-38% market share  since the beginning of 2025, but its capacity share should peak at 41% by December.

The (Maersk-Hapag Lloyd) Gemini Cooperation, is currently in second place, with a market share that is expected to be around 24-25% by the end of the year. However, the gap between it and its direct competitors, the Premier Alliance (One, HMM and Yang Ming) and MSC, is narrowing.

On the transpacific route between Asia and North America, Ocean Alliance’s operating share is expected to reach 37% and 38-40% by the end of the year on westbound and eastbound trade lanes, respectively. In both cases, Sea Int. has a 20-percentage point gap compared to its competitors.

The Asia-Mediterranean route remains the exception, standing out as a much more fragmented and competitive battleground. The analysis company highlights the possibility of a dual between Ocean Alliance and MSC, which currently continues to have the  top  market share.
