A response to Coronavirus

Panama: anchorage dues on hold

by Port News Editorial Staff

Exemption of anchorage dues for non-operative vessels that decide to stop in the Panama Gulf. With this decision, the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) intends to contribute to the fight against the spread of the Coronavirus.

The measure, adopted in agreement with the Ministry of Health, affects both cruise ships and all types of merchant vessels over 500 dwt. The exemption will vary in its validity: 60 days for international ships, 90 days for those flying the Panamanian flag.

However, vessels stopping in Panamanian waters will have to observe a precise protocol throughout their stay and will not have to carry out any activity other than those strictly necessary for keeping them in working order.

Contacts between seafarers on board and service providers will be kept to a minimum and limited to refueling, provisioning and a few other essential services.
