by Port News Editorial Staff

In the first half of 2020, maritime container traffic to and from Panama’s ports was up to 3.8 million TEUs, +13.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to the Panamanian Maritime Authority, a total of 600,000 TEUs per month were handled. 90% of the cargo entering and leaving Panamanian ports concerns the transshipment business: 3.4 out of 3.8 million TEUs. The remaining cargo, on the other hand, is domestic and is down 16% compared to the first six months of 2019.
