The future of the port

Paola De Micheli in Livorno

by Port News’ Editorial Staff

A new step forward towards the future of the port of Livorno. A few days ago the F&m Engineering, Haskoning-Dhv Nederland, Hs Marine, and G&t joint venture presented the President of the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority, Stefano Corsini, with the preliminary project for designing defense and dredging works for Darsena Europa, the seaward expansion facility with which Livorno intends to conquer increasing traffic shares in the container segment.

The document will be presented to the press and the public on November 28th (from 2pm onwards), in Livorno, in the picturesque setting of the Sala Ferretti in the Old Fortress, the Medicean monument that the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority has been managing since 2013.

The event will be attended by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Paola De Micheli, who will speak at a round-table conference with the President of Tuscany Regional Administration, Enrico Rossi, the Mayor of Livorno, Luca Salvetti, the Harbour Master, Giuseppe Tarzia, the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Maremma and the Tyrrhenian Sea, Riccardo Breda.

Architectural and engineering services relating to the preliminary and final design of maritime defense and dredging works are a fundamental step for the construction of the Darsena Europa, an integral part of a larger plan called  ‘Piattaforma Europa’ , which, in addition to the building of a container terminal, also envisages the construction of a new Ro-Ro terminal and an oil dock, intended to accommodate ships carrying petroleum products.

The container terminal will be built with project financing: the time available for private individuals to present a complete proposal will close on 30th November, following the provisions of the Procurement Code (article 183).
