This morning, at 9.30 a.m., the Costa Diadema made its first post-lockdown call at the port of Cagliari, with about 380 passengers on board.
Seven months after the only arrival recorded on the island for 2020 – i.e. the Spirit of Discovery last February 6th in Cagliari – the Diadema’s call is hailed by the Sardinian Port Network Authority as an important step towards a gradual return to normality.
The Diadema’s call, a month later than the Port Network Authority’s initial forecasts, puts Sardinia back on the market after the total health lockdown that has generated, so far, a loss of about 140 calls out of the total 180 planned for 2020.
“Today is a timid sign of the reopening of the island to the cruise market” – explains Massimo Deiana, President of the Sardinian Port Network Authority – “but, at the same time, a call with an important symbolic value that returns the only missing piece of normality to the Sardinian port network that, despite the total shutdown in the spring, has always guaranteed being fully operational.”
