Council approves technical proposal

Regional Council approves SLZ

by Port News Editorial Staff

The Regional Council has unanimously approved the new version of the technical proposal for setting up a Simplified Logistics Zone in Tuscany.

Francesco Gazzetti, Democratic Party regional councillor, announced it: “The news is really important” – Gazzetti said – “It foresees, on indication of the Council led by the president Eugenio Giani, that the regional councillor for manufacturing activities, Leonardo Marras, who put forward the act, will send this final proposal to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers with the task of carrying out all the necessary steps  to get  final approval and recognition of the Simplified Logistic Zone in Tuscany.”

“From the acts accompanying the deliberation, we can see that the proposal envisages a polycentric and multipolar SLZ distributed throughout the region. It includes the ports of Livorno, Piombino, Marina di Carrara and Portoferraio, and the 2 intermodal areas in Guasticce (Collesalvetti) and Prato”. Gazzetti continues – “In this context” – we read –  “the Pisa airport area is located (from a point of view of functional completion).”

The reasons for this choice stem from the need to connect and enhance the various ports and related port and logistics areas that meet the requirements of national regulations.

The SLZ is intended – we read in the deliberation – as a driving force for the growth of trade in Tuscany and as one of the key factors for developing the coastal region, in particular, which is highly strategic and represents one of the areas in which the industrial crisis centers are concentrated.

“It is therefore an important act which has been eagerly awaited. I thank the Regional Council led by President Eugenio Giani that, through this work, has once again demonstrated how attentive and close it  is  to the issues affecting the areas in our region.”- Gazzetti concludes – “Now let’s hope  that the Government will be able to follow and support our proposal with the same amount of  attention and consistency.   The opportunity is absolutely not to be missed and deserves to be accepted and approved.”
