The first ship-to-ship bunkering of Liquefied Natural Gas to a containership in Asia took place in the port of Singapore yesterday.
The vessel in question is the CMA CGM Scandola, a 15,000 TEU vessel owned by the French shipping company. The 7100 cubic metre LNG refueling operation was carried out by specialised Bellina bunker barges owned by FueLNG, a joint venture between Shell and Keppel Offshore & Marine.
The Scandola is the first in a series of six new LNG-fuelled vessels that CMA CGM plans to deploy on the MEX1 service between Asia and the Mediterranean.
FuelNG expects to carry out 30 to 50 ship-to-ship bunkering operations in the port of Singapore this year.
