Deal between the ITF & the Joint Negotiating Group

250,000 seafarers to get a 6% pay rise

by Port News Editorial Staff

As of  January 1st 2024, the 250,000 seafarers currently employed on board 10,000 ships will be getting  a 4% pay rise, plus, starting from the following year, an additional 2%.

This is what has been  stipulated in the four-year agreement signed at the International Bargaining Forum (IBF) by the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) and the Joint Negotiating Group (JNG), representing shipowners.

The two sides also agreed to set up a new workgroup to assess the future of shipping at a time when the industry is undergoing  major transformation

Issues to be addressed include the impact of new technology and the introduction of alternative fuels, concerns about fatigue and working time.
