The North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority has renewed the agreement with third sector associations (SVS Pubblica Assistenza Livorno, Italian Red Cross Livorno, Misericordia Livorno, Misericordia di Montenero and Misericordia di Antignano) to maintain the Emergency & Rescue (E&R) facility in the Darsena Toscana area throughout 2026.
The agreement had already been signed, albeit as an experiment, in October 2022. After its initial success and the favourable feedback from both workers and local authorities, it was implemented and adapted to better meet the port’s needs.
As in previous years, from 8 am to 8 pm on weekdays (from 8 am to 6 pm at weekends) and from 8 am to 10 pm every day of the week between mid-May and the end of September, an ambulance equipped with paramdedics, reanimation parameter detection and trauma equipment, as well as a defibrillator, will be stationed at the beginning of Darsena Toscana’s west bank, also serving the east side with two senior rescuers from the voluntary associations taking part in the initiative.
In 2026, the Port Network Authority will also equip the facility with a LUCAS Chest Compression System, which can only be used by trained personnel.
Since the port E& R facility was set up, an average of 80 operations have been carried out each year. Last year, there was a total of 90 interventions, including two major ones.
