Port Network Authority at Port&ShippingTech International Conference

Livorno PNA showcasing training in Genoa

by Port News Editorial Staff

Last Friday, the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority (PNA) took part in  ‘The technical means of professional skills updating’ event held as part of the Port&ShippingTech International Conference, one of Genoa Shipping Week’s key events.

The meeting brought together experts, institutions and operators from the maritime and port sector to address an increasingly important issue: how professional skills in the port industry are evolving in light of increasing digitalization and the implementation of advanced technologies.

The North Tyrrhenian PNA presented its training centre’s activities, focusing on its NeXTraIn.PortS project – Erasmus programme 2021-2027, which aims to integrate immersive technologies such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) into professional development programs. The aim is to make training more effective, timely and sustainable, without compromising ports’ day-to-day operations.

The panel discussion highlighted how adopting computer-supported education devices, often in phygital mode (a hybrid between physical and digital), represents a practical response to the sector’s new needs. Simulators and immersive technologies are becoming increasingly recognized  as key tools for ensuring continuous, high-quality training in line with the transformations currently underway.
