Red Sea crisis

British cargo ship attacked by drones

by Port News Editorial Staff

A Barbados-flagged merchant ship owned by a British company was attacked by a drone yesterday while sailing between Eritrea and Somalia, 56 miles off the coast of Hodeidah.

The vessel sustained minor damage portside due to a projectile fired from a remotely piloted aircraft. Its deck windows portside were damaged.  However, the ship was able to continue its journey.

Over the past three months, over 40 merchant ships have been targeted by the Houthis.

Reprisals by Yemeni rebels have led to a major reduction in shipping in the Red Sea. The Houthis have declared that they will target vessels with links to Israel, the US and the UK.
