by Port News Editorial Staff

COSCO has announced, through its financial division Cosco Shipping Development, an ambitious fleet expansion plan with a 14-ship mega-order worth $1.2 billion.

The Chinese giant has entrusted CSSC Quingdao Beihai Shipbuilding with the construction of four 210,000 tonne bulk carriers.  A further six bulk carriers have been ordered from the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry’s Zhoushan shipyard.

The vessels will cost $73.6m each. They are expected to be delivered between 2027 and 2028. They are to be chartered to COSCO Shipping Bulk.

COSCO has also placed an order with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong for four specialised bitumen tankers.
