Initiative coordinated by the PNA & the project’s Commission Body

Darsena Europa rescue exercise

by Port News Editorial Staff

A simulation exercise was successfully carried out at the Darsena Europa construction site area to test the operational readiness and response capacity of all parties involved in managing a port emergency.

The exercise, coordinated by the Port Network Authority (PNA) and the  mega infrastructure project’s Commission Body, saw the participation of the 118 emergency service, the fire service, and third sector associations (SVS Pubblica Assistenza Livorno, Italian Red Cross Livorno, Misericordia Livorno, Misericordia di Antignano and Misericordia di Montenero).

The simulated scenario involved a worker who had broken his leg after being hit by a vehicle while standing at the end of a breakwater currently under construction as part of Livorno’s seaward expansion project.

The vehicles and personnel taking part in the exercise responded promptly, providing first aid medication to the injured person, who was then transported out of the port by ambulance.

It was a team effort by all the organizations involved, right from the gate security personnel, who facilitated the entry of emergency vehicles to the construction site, to  the on-site security guards, who escorted the vehicles to the accident location.
