Confindustria Toscana’s vice president’s contribution

Darsena Europa, there’s no time to lose

Darsena Europa. ‘Never waste a good crisis’. The Deputy President of Confindustria Toscana Centro e Costa, Piero Neri, quotes a phrase attributed to Winston Churchill to stress the urgency of carrying out – especially now, in times of great geopolitical uncertainty – Livorno port’s seaward expansion infrastructure, the only one, all things considered, capable of guaranteeing “a future for Livorno’s port, the regional coastal area, and the whole of Tuscany”.

“The entire port community has to work as a team to achieve this goal,” said Mr. Neri at the conference presenting the Il Tirreno report ranking the top 250 companies in the region by their financial standing, held at  the Chamber of Commerce this morning.

To complete the mega infrastructure, what is needed, according to Neri, is not only “an act of courage”, but “great determination to ensure the work schedule is respected.”

“The time factor,” he reiterated, “is decisive, especially when you are going to build an infrastructure that could upset your neighbouring ports.”

Mr. Neri also stressed how important it is to be ready for Darsena Europa: “In the run-up to  completing  the infrastructure, we need a common sense of purpose among all our port cluster stakeholders, not only to maintain current traffic volumes but also to increase them,” he said.

This  is why “Our port’s terminal operators need to have ambitious business plans.”
