The Danish authorities have detained a boxship subject to sanctions due to doubts about its flag registration.
The Nora, a 37,100 DWT containership, appears to be falsely registered in the Comoros Islands, according to the IMO’s Integrated Global Shipping Information System (GISIS) and the Equasis database.
The Danish Maritime Authority has stated that the vessel will be detained until its flag status has been clarified.
Data from the vessel’s MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) number shows that on 18th February, the vessel was flying an Iranian flag.
The Nora had already been sanctioned by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) under its previous name, Cerus.
The United States claims that the Cerus is part of a network of vessels owned by Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, son of Ali Shamkhani, advisor to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
