The Maran Gas Kalymonos berths in the port

First LNG cargo arrives at Piombino

by Port News Editorial Staff

On Thursday night, shortly after 11pm, the Greek LNG carrier ‘Maran Gas Kalymonos‘ entered the port of Piombino, bringing its first liquefied natural gas cargo. It will be unloaded into the tanks of the Golar Tundra, Snam’s regasification vessel, which arrived in the port a month ago.

This first gas shipment will be used to start the regasification tests necessary for commissioning the plant. Permits are expected over the next few days.

A ceremony is planned for this afternoon. Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Special Commissioner Eugenio Giani, President of Tuscany Regional Administration, Snam CEO Stefano Venier, and Eni Natural Resources General Manager Guido Brusco will be taking part.
