A month of events featuring culture, music and shows. From 20th September to 20th October, Livorno, Piombino and the ports of Elba will be celebrating its autumn session of Italian Port Days, an initiative launched jointly by the Port Network Authorities and coordinated by Assoporti (the Italian Port Association) to bring citizens closer to port life and culture.
The initiative, which kicks off the 19th edition of Porto Aperto, the project designed to open up the Network ports to their urban contexts conceived by the North Tyrrhenian PNA, began last Sunday with three concerts in the Fortezza Vecchia on the final day of Livorno Music Festival 2025.
Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, the Giro d’Italia tour by seaplane will stop on the Island of Elba. Organized by the Italian Maritime Aviation Association, the tour consists of eight stops from Venice to Gallipoli (Lecce). It will take 17 days, flying a total of approximately 2,000 km.
The third event, scheduled to take place in Piombino on 25th September, is the inauguration of the 2025-2026 school year, in collaboration with Piombino Municipality and the local regional Educational Dept.
The following day, at the PNA’s Piombino branch office, there will be a career guidance day for maritime professions, entitled ‘Maturi in Porto’ .
The month’s program of events concludes in Portoferraio on September 27th with the show ‘Il Faro e la Sirena’, a concert for voice, flute, accordion, and soundscapes organized by the Nina association and sponsored by the North Tyrrhenian PNA and the Tuscany Regional Administration.
The event, which is packed with activities, includes a series of wide-ranging cultural initiatives dedicated to gender equality in October.
On 7th October, the conference ‘Porti Inclusivi del Mediterraneo. Strategie per la Parità di Genere nel Sistema Portuale’ (Inclusive Ports in the Mediterranean: Strategies for Gender Equality in the Port System) will be held at the Old Fortress. This event marks the conclusion of the Port Network Authority’s UNI/PDR certification process, the formal recognition a company receives after adopting and demonstrating the application of Reference Practice (PdR) 125:2022, the voluntary national standard for gender equality certification.
Also in October, the ‘Navigare verso la parità. Portiamo la parità nei porti: donne, leadership e cariche apicali nel contesto portuale‘ (Sailing towards equality. Bringing equality to ports: women, leadership and top positions in the port context) conference will be held in Piombino, at the Port Authority’s training facility. The initiative has been organized by Soroptimist International d’Italia – Club Piombino.
Among the events scheduled for October is an initiative dedicated to Erasmus Days and the evolution of maritime profession skills, which will be held on Thursday 16th October at 5.30 pm in the Old Fortress. On the same day, as part of the Port Centre’s Thursday events, there will be the presentation of the book ‘Del mare, delle isole e altre storie’ by M. Garfagnoli, published by Betti Editrice.
Finally, the closing event will take place on 19th October. The Old Fortress will host two shows, as part of the Con-fusione Festival, the theatre festival for the new generations.
