Hormuz: CMA CGM Kribi gets green light

by Port News Editorial Staff

After two COSCO boxships – initially banned by Tehran – a CMA CGM container ship has also successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz though the safe maritime corridor approved by Iran, which requires a detour towards the Iranian island of Larak.

The 5,500 TEU Kribi, which operates on the Midas1 liner service linking the Gulf, India and Africa, entered the Gulf on 26th February.  She remained stranded in the area for over a month before managing to reach an agreement with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Meanwhile, Iranian media reports that Iran and Oman are on the verge of reaching an agreement to jointly supervise and monitor traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iranian Deputy Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, the aim is not to impose restrictions, but to ensure the safety of navigation and provide better services to ships in transit.
