Israel -Iran truce hanging by a thread

by Port News Editorial Staff

Just a few hours after the fragile truce between Israel and Iran, announced yesterday by US President Donald Trump,  already appears to be hanging by a thread.

Around 4 a.m. Tehran local time, just as the Iranian Foreign Minister, ABbas Araghchi, had declared that Iran would cease its attacks if Israel stopped its air raids, an Iranian missile attack hit a residential building in Beersheba, southern Israel.

Tehran denied having fired missiles at Israel after the ceasefire announcement. On the other hand, the Israeli Defence Minister, Katz, stated that he had instructed the IDF to respond forcefully to the ceasefire violation with intensive strikes against regime targets.

It is not yet clear how the latest developments in the Middle East crisis will affect the truce.

The situation still remains very fragile in the region. The next 24 hours will be crucial to understand whether or not the parties involved have a real intention to continue the de-escalation in the area.
