Consolidating current trade relations and creating new traffic opportunities, directly involving operators. It was with this objective in mind that a delegation from the US port of Jacksonville met with Port Network Authority top executives in Livorno this afternoon.
The parties met at Livorno Port Authority Palazzo Rosciano headquarters, for preliminary discussions and to define a road map to a fruitful collaboration between the two ports.
Representing the Port Authority were Senior Promotion Executive Claudio Capuano, and officials Giampiero Costagli, Francesca Morucci and Giles Foster, while the American delegation was led by Robert Peek, Jacksonville Port Authority’s Commercial Director, and two Operations Directors, Sheila Cox and Joyssy Woody.
Located on the south-east coast of the United States, the port of Jacksonville is a key hub for Florida, with a catchment area of 98 million consumers.
The US port and the port of Livorno are currently indirectly linked by two Gemini Cooperation (Maersk and Hapag Lloyd) services: the Florida Shuttle Service, which links Miami and Jacksonville with Cartagena (in Colombia), and the West Coast South America Express (MSW), which connects Colombia to Italy (Genoa, Livorno, Civitavecchia and Salerno) via Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica and Spain.
The aim is to lay the foundations for setting up one or more direct services between the two ports. This operation is to be defined in upcoming meetings, with the direct involvement of operators.
“The purpose of the delegation’s visit was to learn more about Livorno port’s infrastructure and its projects, in order to explore the possibility of increasing trade between the two ports,” said Mr. Capuano, confirming the Authority’s desire to step up discussions between the two Port Authorities, recognizing the centrality of the US markets for the port of Livorno.
