Tuscan PCS to be adopted in Sardinia and Campania

Livorno, Italy’s model smart port

The North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority’s Tuscan Port Community System (TPCS) is expanding nationwide.

In Livorno, the digital revolution that began in 2012 with the development of the information flow management tool has triggered a decisive change in the way data is shared among the shakeholders involved (terminals, shippers, institutional offices, hauliers, shipping agents), permitting substantial time-saving  and the streamlining of goods import and export operations.

Eleven years after it was first set up, in the wake of its success, Sardinia and Campania have now decided to adopt this model. A few days ago, the North Tyrrhenian PNA  signed two special agreements with the Sardinian Port Network Authority and the Central Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority.

Under these agreements, the Tuscan PCS will be made available to the Sardinian ports of Cagliari, Olbia, Golfo Aranci, Porto Torres, Oristano, Santa Teresa, Portovesme and Arbatax, and the Campania ports of Naples, Salerno and Castellamare di Stabia.

“Exporting our TPCS to two important contexts like the Sardinian ports and the Central Tyrrhenian ones is a great achievement for our Network Authority,” said Luciano Guerrieri, President of the North Tyrrhenian PNA, who added: ‘This is a source of satisfaction not only for us, but also and above all for our port and its operators, who have always been actively involved in the development of this fundamentally important platform.”

For PNA managing director, Matteo Paroli, these agreements demonstrate the validity of the strategic choice the Network Authority has made. “We can safely say that our PCS is currently considered to be one of the most advanced models in Italy” he says, adding that he wants to continue to heavily invest in further developing the TPCS, which has generated a genuine user community:“For years we have been working closely with all the stakeholders involved,” he continues,“We do not impose ready-made solutions but build value-added features and services with them. The real challenge is to be able to translate ideas and requests into digital solutions that truly respond to real operational needs.”

“The Sardinian port network is officially moving into a new, more advanced digitalization phase,” explains Massimo Deiana, President of the Sardinian Port Network Authority, “thanks to the fruitful cooperation with the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority, which has now also been extended to Campania’s ports of call, we are adopting an efficient, successful Port Community System that will enable us, once it has been adapted to the needs of our eight ports, to further digitalize, simplify and speed up the exchange of crucial data and information for port activities and operations. An indispensable process that brings the PNA even closer to its port cluster and raises the level of competitiveness of our eight Sardinian ports.

According to the President of the Central Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority, Andrea Annunziata, the implementation of the Tuscan PCS in the Campania Port Network “demonstrates how digital cooperation between Italian port networks is a winning formula, consenting greater uniformity of port procedures at  national level. The PCS is recognized as the most advanced information exchange method in the national port community. It optimizes, manages, automates and streamlines the port import-export process through single data submission. The adoption of the precious Tuscan PCS will increase the competitiveness of the ports of Naples, Salerno and Castellammare di Stabia, making the exchange of information between public authorities and port operators more intelligent and secure.”
