“Fully satisfied with the deal. It’s a long-awaited milestone for the city of Piombino and the Tuscan and national port system.”
This is how Special Commissioner, Davide Gariglio comments the signing of the Programme Agreement with Metinvest in Rome today that kicks off the €2.5 billion investment for the production of steel plating.
The agreement was signed by, among others, the Minister of Enterprises & Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, the Minister of the Environment Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, the Special Commissioner of the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority Davide Gariglio, and Piombino Municipality. A milestone agreement that covers multiple aspects of steel production: from infrastructure to environmental and energy issues to safeguarding employment and worker training.
‘The Port Network Authority, in its capacity as implementing body for the Special Commissioner & President of Tuscany Regional Administration, undertakes to build the necessary infrastructure, as per the contents of the agreement,” Mr. Gariglio added, highlighting the strategic importance of a deal that, among other things, commits the parties to guarantee the construction of a railway inside and outside the site, connected to the national rail network, a key factor for a port that intends to relaunch itself nationally.
