Passenger crisis unit in Portoferraio

by Port News Editorial Staff

The first autumn storms have put a strain on shipping links, with delays and cancellations. The worst disruption level has been recorded over the last few days, with only one departure from the port of Piombino to Portoferraio, preventing other passengers, especially residents, from returning to  Elba island.

The Port Network Authority and the Mayor of Portoferraio have decided step up communications monitoring the situation in order to guarantee the necessary assistance to passengers stranded in the port of Piombino, who were already suffering the inconvenience of not being able to return to their homes.

Although information had been given on monitors in the passenger terminal, the two administrations have agreed that updates on the situation, in circumstances like these, will, from now on, also be provided using the terminal’s intercom systems.

In fact, a sort of ‘Crisis Unit’ has been set up by the Port Network Authority and Portoferraio municipality, with the task of monitoring and managing situations similar to the ones over the last few days, in view of limiting passenger inconvenience as much as possible.

In addition, free shuttle services to and from the port and the city will be set up for passengers on foot as well as other initiatives aimed at improving passenger hospitality.
