Demolition of the former petrol station gets underway

Portoferraio’s Piazza Citi gets a facelift

by Port News Editorial Staff

Portoferraio – work on the demolition of the fuel distribution plant in Piazza Citi will start in the second week of January and be completed in a month. The operation will be carried out Ecoflash S.r.l., the Livorno-based company, which was awarded the contract by the Port Network Authority at the end of a tender procedure.

Yesterday preparatory activities for opening the construction site began, with the sampling of liquids in the tanks and from the manholes in the road, adjacent to the fence of the former plant.

The total cost of the project  to demolish the petrol station and redevelop the area is 80,000 euros.  It will start on 8th  January, at the end of the holiday period, in order to avoid disrupting the Christmas period.

The construction site will be set up and Piazza Citi will be closed off to traffic. Access to the parking facilities in Calata Italia will be from Viale Elba along the traffic lane reserved for boarding at piers 6 and 7, temporarily used by all vehicles including those without boarding tickets.

The Port Network Authority is fully aware of the inconvenience it will cause for local people.  It is committed to restoring normal traffic conditions as soon as possible.
