by Port News Editorial Staff

A South Korean-flagged tanker has capsized off the coast of Japan.  The 11-member crew had sent out a distress call, which was picked up by the Japanese Coast Guard.

Boats and aircraft have been sent to assist the capsized vessel 68 km away from Tongyeong Island in the southern province of Gyeongsang.

Two seafarers are currently missing. The others have reportedly been rescued.

The ship was carrying about 980 tonnes of acrylic acid at the time of the accident. So far, no leaks have been reported.
