Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has secured a 27-year concession to build and operate a finished vehicle logistics terminal for in the port of Barcelona.
The new 101,000 m2 facility, scheduled to be operational in 2027, will feature a fully automated multi-storey parking system, use renewable energy, and be able to handle approximately 180,000 vehicles a year.
NYK has stated that it intends to position the port of Barcelona as an international car logistics hub. The aim is to cater for current and future demand from Western Mediterranean and North African regions.
NYK already has a major car terminal in Europe, in Zeebrugge.
