Livorno is preparing to host a project designed to blend nautical expertise, technology and research at its very highest level. The city, which has been one of Italy’s leading shipbuilding centres for decades, will be involved in the construction of the new Ferrari Hypersail, the first racing yacht to be developed by the famous Italian brand.
Il Tirreno was the first to announce the news this morning reporting that Azimut Benetti, a leading international group in the luxury yacht sector, will be collaborating with Ferrari, providing facilities, expertise and specialist staff.
The project was presented this afternoon at Genoa Boat Show. It has been developed to compete in the Jules Verne Trophy, awarded to the crew that sails round-the-world in the shortest possible time.
The President of the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority, Davide Gariglio, and the Mayor of Livorno, Luca Salvetti were both present at the event. They expressed their immense satisfaction over a project designed to restore the city to its position at the forefront of the yachting industry.
“It is a source of great pride to see a company like Ferrari being presented here in Genoa today, having chosen Livorno and Azimut Benetti for a technological and sporting challenge of this magnitude. This is a tribute to our port, to its shipbuilding tradition and to our institutions’ ability to work as a team,” said Mr. Gariglio “Our Port Network Authority has wholeheartedly supported the authorization process to build the new large Ferrari-branded warehouse, entirely dedicated to the construction of the Hypersail, in our city’s Porta a Mare area. It is an international showcase for Livorno.”
“Livorno is once again taking centre stage in the top yachting sector world. Being here today and seeing the Ferrari brand associated with our city is a source of immense pride for everyone in Livorno and a real opportunity for employment, skills development and the region’s appeal,” Mr Salvetti added.
A complex authorisation process has been completed to enable work to begin on the construction site, involving the Superintendency, the local council and the Port Network Authority. The facility, easily recognizable with its Ferrari logo, will be used for the assembly and development of the Hypersail. The hull is expected to arrive in Livorno in late 2026. The installation of systems, on-board electronics and foils is set for early 2027.
“It is an exceptional collaboration between two leading names,” explained Andrea Antichi, General Manager of Azimut Yachts. “This partnership is based on many values, culture and an operating model we both share. Both companies know how to continually push the boundaries of excellence and product quality. Designers and planners have just one goal: to amaze the world by achieving excellence without compromises. This will give rise to a unique synergy, in which the product is not the end in itself, but the means by which we communicate who we are. I would like to thank the Port Network Authority for the support it has given us.”
