Port Network Authority & fire service renew partnership

At the forefront of port safety & rescue

The North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority & Livorno Province Fire Service have further consolidated  their inter-institutional cooperation by signing an addendum  to the  2020 Framework Agreement.

At the Port Network Authority’s (PNA) headquarters in Palazzo Rosciano, Port Authority President Luciano Guerrieri and Commander Ugo D’Anna have signed a new agreement with the aim of further strengthening port rescue services for the ports under the PNA’s jurisdiction (Livorno, Piombino, Portoferraio, Rio Marina, Cavo and Capraia Island).

The agreement envisages a series of measures, including purchasing an urgent emergency technical rescue vessel to be deployed at the port of Piombino. The new equipment will consent better rescue operations in the port and in its neighbouring sea areas, making it feasible to easily go as far as the island of Elba.

It  will also be at available to Livorno divers’ unit  for operations at sea in the same area, without the necessity of boat transport, which will significantly reduce response times.

Instead, in Livorno port, a quay crane is to be made fully-operational again, which is particularly useful for heaving up and launching boats not only for the Fire Service but also for the police and rescue forces who request it.

PNA Managing Director, Matteo Paroli, expressed his satisfaction: “Paying attention to the health and safety of people working in the port or using our ports of call for departures and arrivals is a priority for the Port Network Authority,” he said. “Collaborating with the Fire Service, whose role is not only to focus on  fire prevention and firefighting but also on search and rescue activities, is fundamental in this context. We are happy to be able to renew such a strategic agreement for the ports under our jurisdiction today .”
