Box spot rates up 2% on last week

This week, Drewry’s World Container Index composite was up 2% on the previous week to $2276 per 40-foot container.

Shanghai – Genoa and Shanghai – New York freight rates both rose by 4% to $2,841 and $4527 per FEU respectively. Shanghai – Los Angeles tariffs were up 2% to $3197/FEU, while  Los Angeles – Shanghai freight rates increased by 1% to $713 /FEU.

On the other hand, Shanghai – Rotterdam, Rotterdam – Shanghai, Rotterdam – New York and New York – Rotterdam rates remained stable.

Drewry expects spot rates to increase in the coming week, as carriers are reorganizing their capacity to accommodate higher volumes of cargo bookings from China.
