Chinese newcomer goes transpacific

by Port News Editorial Staff

A new Chinese shipping company is preparing to enter the international shipping market. It is Hong Kong-based Hede International Shipping, a company that is part of the Tangshan Port Industrial group, which until now only specialized in domestic traffic and on link services between Japan and South Korea.

By the end of this month, the carrier is to put two 4250 TEU containerships on a transpacific service connecting Shanghai with Los Angeles.

The US Federal Maritime Commission has just classified Hede  as a company controlled by the government of the People’s Republic of China.
