Container freight rates down 4%

This week, container shipping spot market rates fell by 4%, to $3,162 per FEU. This is the fourth consecutive weekly drop.

The index level is, on average, 123% higher compared to 2019 and 77% higher than the same week in the previous year.

Shanghai – Rotterdam and Shanghai – Genoa freight rates both fell by 5% each, to $3473 and $4223 per FEU respectively. Similarly, Shanghai – Los Angeles rates were down  4%, to $4082 per FEU.

Tariffs also decreased on the Rotterdam – Shanghai route (-2%, to USD 845 per FEU), the Los Angeles – Shanghai route (-1%, to USD 707 per FEU) and the Shanghai – New York route (-1%, to $ 5411 per FEU):

On the other hand, Rotterdam – New York index levels went against this trend, with  freight rates up by 2% on a weekly basis, to $2242 per FEU. Tariffs  on the New York – Rotterdam also rose (+3%, to $644 per FEU).
